On the top of Asian Girls
19 years old Asha B.K, in Kawasoti municipality in Nawalpur is one of the peer educators supported by the project for the empowerment young girls in her village.
Being a girl from a socially excluded and economically marginalized family in a son preference society, Asha was given birth as a fourth child of her parent in an expectation of a boy child.
That is why she was named“Asha” which means “hope”, Said Asha. Definitely, her mother gave birth to a boy child much later.Being a peer educator supported by Jcycn, Asha developed her interest to become a Kickboxing Player. She would go around the village and share her knowledge of girls’ empowerment and other protection issues related to the children,especially the girl child.She leads Jagriti child club that has fostered her social actions aiming to build her municipality a girl-friendly place to live.
Asha has been conducting an orientation program on reusable cloth pad making training, self-defence training and leadership development training parallel to her kickboxing training at the highest level of parental satisfaction. Geeta, the mother feels ashamed for expecting son while giving birth to Asha.“I was sad when I gave birth to Asha, but now I realize that if it was a son,he would probably not capable as Asha is.” – She said.For the remarkable work and performance, Asha was awarded by Asian Girl Community Development Award held at Taiwan in 2019.
